Long COVID, or post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC), is a condition marked by the continuation of COVID-19 symptoms—or the emergence of new ones—after recovery from acute COVID-19. It generally refers to the persistence of symptoms four weeks or longer after the onset of COVID-19.

Long-term effects of COVID can be different for everyone and they can affect many different parts of the body, such as the heart, brain, and lungs. And people who have PASC, including Long COVID, can have different kinds of effects. These effects may come and go, and they may last for a few weeks, a few months, or longer.

Post-viral fatigue is when you have an extended period of feeling unwell and fatigued after a viral infection. Fatigue is a normal part of the body’s response to fighting a viral infection such as COVID-19. Fatigue is likely to continue for some time after the infection has cleared. It can make you sleep more, feel unsteady on your feet, make standing for long periods difficult, as well as affecting your ability to concentrate and your memory.

Shortness of Breath

Infections and viruses can significantly impact the respiratory system. Many patients suffer the effects of lung damage during an acute infection, including shortness of breath and coughing. This is likely due to a combination of the body’s exaggerated immune system reaction to the virus and blood clots that obstruct oxygen intake in the lungs. Fortunately, the symptom is usually short-lived.

For patients who go on to develop Long COVID, however, this may become a long-term symptom affecting quality of life. There’s limited research so far, but shortness of breath may be linked to interference with brain blood flow or problems related to the autonomic nervous system. As a result, many Long COVID patients have a dysfunctional breathing pattern.

Coughing is one of the most common symptoms of COVID-19, and for some people, a lingering cough can persist for months after infection. Studies show that as many as 5 percent of people infected with COVID have a cough lasting four or more weeks.

Headache is among the most frequent symptoms persisting or newly developing after COVID-19 as part of the long COVID syndrome. Long COVID headache can present in the form of worsening of a preexisting primary headache, or, more specifically, in the form of a new (intermittent or daily) headache starting during the acute infection or after a delay. It often presents together with other long COVID symptoms, most frequently with hyposmia. It can manifest with a migrainous or, more frequently, with a tension-type-like phenotype. Persistent activation of the immune system and trigeminovascular activation are thought to play a role.

Among people who were hospitalized for COVID, a wide range of problems with cognition have been reported. People struggling with the effects of long COVID may have noticeable problems with attention, memory, and executive function. Studies report these issues both in people who were not hospitalized with COVID and in those who were, as well as in people who had severe cases. Those who tried Tollovid reported benefits in their brain fog symptoms.

Although COVID-19 is primarily a respiratory or lung disease, the heart can also suffer. As the virus causes inflammation and fluid to fill up the air sacs in the lungs, less oxygen can reach the bloodstream. The heart has to work harder to pump blood through the body, which can be dangerous in people withpreexisting heart disease. The infection may infect and damage the heart’s muscle tissue directly, as is possible with other viral infections, including some strains of the flu. Coronavirus infection also affects the inner surfaces of veins and arteries, which can cause blood vessel inflammation, damage to very small vessels and blood clots, all of which can compromise blood flow to the heart or other parts of the body.

Viral infections can cause cardiomyopathy, a heart muscle disorder that affects the heart’s ability to pump blood effectively. When attacked by a virus, the body undergoes stress and releases a surge of chemicals called catecholamines, which can stun the heart. Once the infection resolves, the stressor has ended and the heart can recover.

Acute COVID-19 is associated with gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and abdominal pain. In patients with PACS, gastrointestinal-related symptoms includes loss of appetite, nausea, weight loss, abdominal pain, heartburn, dysphagia, altered bowel motility and irritable bowel syndrome. Emerging evidence demonstrates persistent and aberrant inflammationas well as induction of autoimmunity in a subset of patients with PASC.  Viral persistence beyond acute COVID-19 has also been documented withinmultiple organs, including the gastrointestinal tract and centralnervous system.

How Tollovid™ Works:

1. Binding & Entry

First, the infection must get inside the cell. Every infection does this slightly differently, but most use their signature “spikes” to fuse themselves to a cell’s outer membrane and then squeeze their way inside.


Once inside, the RNA instructs the cell to make a long polypeptide containing special enzymes. This long protein must be cut apart for the infection to replicate. To accomplish this, the infection encodes a special ‘scissors’, called 3CL protease, which cuts up the polypeptide into the different enzymes that then become functional.

3. Replication

Before these enzymes can start working, they need to be separated from each other. The protease enzyme acts like a pair of scissors, cutting the polypeptide up into the different enzymes that then become functional.

4. 3CL Protease Inhibitors

3CL Protease Inhibitors, like Tollovid, are designed to tightly bind to the protease enzyme, blocking its ability to cut. This shuts down the entire infection-cloning apparatus, leaving it unable to replicate.
